PHILADELPHIA – The College of Saint Rose rallied from an 18 point deficit in the final six minutes only to fall short with a 70-61 non-conference setback at Philadelphia University this afternoon. In the process, the Golden Knights (6-4) had their five-game win streak snapped. The Rams outscored Saint Rose by nine points at the free throw stripe. Saint Rose went 11-for-13 from the line, while Philadelphia converted 20 of its 30 opportunities.
Sophomore forward
Brian Hanuschak recorded his third “double-double” of the year with 16 points and 13 rebounds, including 10 and 10 in the second half, to lead Saint Rose. He also had a team-high three assists. Freshman guard
Andre Pope and senior guard
Jermaine Clark tossed in 15 points apiece, while sophomore guard
Rob Gutierrez had eight points in 27 minutes off the bench.
The Golden Knights got themselves back into the ballgame by virtue of a 17-4 run that transformed an 18 point, 62-44, deficit into a five point, 66-61, shortfall with 1:32 remaining. However, the Rams (8-4) held Saint Rose scoreless the rest of the way to chalk up the victory.
Pope buried a pair of 3-pointers within a two-minute span to highlight the spurt that Hanuschak capped with a conventional three-point play.
Senior guard Russell Frederick had a game-high 29 points, while senior forward Malcolm Ingram finished with 21 points and 12 boards to pace Philadelphia.
Up next, Saint Rose heads to Long Island for a 6:00 pm non-league date at C.W. Post on Monday, December 28. The Golden Knights are then home two days later when Mercy College visits the Daniel P. Nolan Gymnasium. Tip-off is at 7:00 pm for “Dollar Night”. All general admission tickets are just $1. Meanwhile, Philadelphia has a 5:00 pm home game versus Pace University this Tuesday.
