ALBANY – Senior guard
Jermaine Clark scored 11 of his season-high 27 points in overtime to lead The College of Saint Rose men's basketball team to a 91-89 overtime victory over Pace University in a Northeast-10 Conference contest at the Daniel P. Nolan Gymnasium this evening. The Golden Knights (2-3/1-3 NE-10), who snapped a three-game skid, hit all three of their field goal attempts in the extra session and buried 7-of-8 free throw attempts to secure the win.
All five starters reached double-figures for Saint Rose. Sophomore forward
Brian Hanuschak registered his second “double-double” of the year on the strength of 17 points and a career-high 14 rebounds. Fellow sophomore forward
Sheldon Griffin also established a pair of career-bests with 15 points and nine boards. Meanwhile, freshman guard
Andre Pope and sophomore guard
Shea Bromirski added 11 points apiece.
The Setters (1-3/1-2 NE-10) received 23 points from sophomore guard Ryan Woods. Sophomore guard Adrian Mills added 16 points, while senior guard Laurence McGhee and freshman forward David Eismeier finished with 15 and 14 points respectively.
Pace led by two, 76-74, following a 3-pointer by Eismeier with 37 seconds remaining in regulation. Clark provided an answer with a jumper from the left corner with 18 seconds left, thus forcing overtime for the second consecutive meeting between the two clubs.
In the extra frame, Clark knocked down a deep ball with 1:42 on the clock and Saint Rose never trailed again. Woods managed to get the Setters even, 86-86, with a trey of his own at the one minute mark. However, Clark went 5-for-6 from the line down the stretch to help seal things. Pace freshman forward Tristan Benjamin got a long look at a “three” at the buzzer, but came up short.
Both squads return to league action Wednesday with a pair of home games on tap. The Golden Knights are scheduled to host the University of New Haven, while the Setters welcome Le Moyne College to Pleasantville. Both contests are slated to tip at 7:30 pm.
