SAINT ROSE FALLS AT ADELPHI

Senior guard Jermaine Clark had eight points in tonight's setback at Northeast-10 Conference rival Adelphi.
GARDEN CITY, NY – Host Adelphi set the tone early on by jumping out to an 8-0 lead on the way to a 68-49 victory against The College of Saint Rose in a Northeast-10 Conference encounter tonight at The Center for Recreation and Sport. The Panthers (4-0/2-0 NE-10), in their first year as a member of the NE-10, shot 52.1 percent (25-for-48) from the floor and held the Golden Knights (1-3/0-3 NE-10) to 37.0 percent (17-for-46) shooting to remain unbeaten.

Freshman guard Andre Pope was the lone Saint Rose player in double-figures scoring with 20 points. Sophomore guard Rob Gutierrez and senior guard Jermaine Clark finished with eight points each.

Saint Rose cut its deficit to four, 16-12, following a Clark jumper, but the Panthers responded with a 12-1 spurt that put them in control 28-13 with 8:28 to go until intermission. Adelphi owned a double-digit lead the rest of the way.

Junior guard Richard Byrd led the Panthers with 16 points and eight rebounds, while senior guard Chris Diasparra finished with 14 points throughout 29 minutes of reserve duty.

Up next, both teams return to NE-10 action Sunday. Saint Rose will host Pace University in the second half of a conference doubleheader at 3:30 pm. Meanwhile, Adelphi has a 3:30 pm date at Assumption in Worcester, MA.
