HIGH SCORING FRANKLIN PIERCE HANDS SAINT ROSE 84-70 LOSS

Junior guard Elizabeth Buckley
ALBANY – Franklin Pierce ascended the 80 point barrier for the sixth time in the last seven games to upend The College of Saint Rose 84-70 in a Northeast-10 Conference game tonight at the Daniel P. Nolan Gymnasium. The Ravens (11-4/8-3 NE-10) outscored the Golden Knights (9-7/4-7 NE-10) 44-20 in the paint, shot 50.3 percent (28-for-55) from the floor and generated a 39-24 advantage on the glass to run their win streak to five games.

Junior guard Elizabeth Buckley scored a season-high 27 points, on 7-for-11 shooting from the arc, while senior center Lauren Revesz and senior guard Dana Brown tossed in 14 each for Saint Rose. Sophomore guard Lynsey Timbrouck handed out seven assists, one shy of her career high.

Saint Rose got off to a great start by converting five of its first six shots to jump out to an 11-2 lead in the game's opening two minutes. However, Franklin Pierce came out of a timeout and answered with 15 of the next 22 points to cut its deficit to one, 18-17, with 14:42 remaining after junior guard Johannah Leedham drained a 3-pointer.

A minute later, sophomore guard Cynthia Gaudet finished in the paint to ignite a 21-2 Franklin Pierce outburst that turned a 20-19 deficit into a 40-22 advantage with 5:34 left in the first half. Johannah Leedham finished the run with a three-point play for the Ravens, who were never in much danger after going into the locker room up 44-34 at the break following a Saint Rose 5-1 spurt to close the first period.

The Golden Knights managed to get to within seven points on two occasions throughout the initial four minutes of the second stanza, but sophomore center Tori Ahrens converted a layup and Johannah Leedham finished off her own steal to afford the Ravens an 11 point, 52-41, lead that swelled to 18 points in the game's final two minutes.

Senior guard Jennifer Leedham wound up with a season-high 27 points for Franklin Pierce. Her younger sister Johannah, the reigning State Farm/WBCA NCAA Division II National Player of the Year, had 24 points to go with four assists and four steals; while Ahrens added 13 points.

For Saint Rose, Buckley's seven treys gave her 101 for her career and thus she is now one of only six players in school annals to record more than 100 in a Golden Knights uniform.

In upcoming action, both teams have league games on tap for Saturday. Saint Rose will host 10th-ranked Stonehill at 1:30 pm, while Franklin Pierce has a 2:00 pm home date with New Haven.
