ALBANY – The College of Saint Rose dropped its fourth straight game with a 66-58 loss to visiting Northeast-10 Conference rival Bentley University tonight. The game was televised live on Time Warner Sports Channel 3, making it the first ever televised game from the Daniel P. Nolan Gymnasium.
The Golden Knights (5-4/2-4 NE-10) were hurt by 31.0 percent (9-for-29) shooting, including 18.2 percent (2-for-11) from the arc, throughout the second half. Bentley only shot a little better with a 37.0 percent (10-for-27) conversion rate, but offset that by burying 93.3 percent (14-for-15) of its opportunities from the free throw line during the final 20 minutes.
Senior guard
Dana Brown was in double-figures for the ninth time in as many games this year with a team-high 17 points for Saint Rose. Senior center
Lauren Revesz contributed 12 points, seven rebounds and a career-high five assists; while sophomore forward
Amy Voelkel tied her career-high with 11 points to go with eight boards.
Saint Rose led for all but an early 30-second span in the first half to go in the locker room up one, 30-29, at the break although the Falcons (6-5/4-2 NE-10) foreshadowed things to come by whittling away a five point deficit with a 4-0 spurt to close the period.
Bentley then put itself in the driver's seat with a 13-2 jaunt at the 14:31 mark of the second half that transformed a four point, 40-36, deficit into a seven point, 49-42, advantage with 10:04 to go. Senior forward Kristy McLean ignited the run with a layup and then capped via a jumper. Meanwhile, sophomore guard Kim Brennan drilled a 3-pointer than made it 42-40 Bentley and put the Falcons ahead to stay.
Saint Rose hung around and cut the margin to one, 53-52, when Voelkel hit a jumper with 1:37 remaining. However, Brennan answered on the other end with a trey and then Bentley took care of its final piece of business by going 10-for-10 from the stripe throughout the final 40 seconds.
Brennan wound up with 21 points, while McLean finished with 16 points and six rebounds to lead Bentley, which has now won three straight and four of its last five.
Saint Rose is off for the rest of the week due to final exams. The Golden Knights return to action next Wednesday, December 17 for a 7:00 pm non-league game at Bloomfield (NJ). Meanwhile, Bentley has a home non-conference date with Concordia on Sunday. Tip-off is set for 2:00 pm.
