PLEASANTVILLE, NY – The College of Saint Rose women's basketball team suffered its first loss of the 2008-09 campaign as Northeast-10 Conference rival Pace University upended the Golden Knights 82-72 this afternoon at the Goldstein Fitness Center.
The Setters (2-1/2-1 NE-10) torched the nylon for 11, 3-pointers in the contest en route to shooting 50.0 percent (11-for-22) from beyond the arc. Conversely, Saint Rose (5-1/2-1 NE-10) hit only 31.0 percent (9-for-29) of its attempts from deep, including a 5-for-18 effort in the second half.
Senior center
Lauren Revesz led the Golden Knights with 26 points and a career-high 12 rebounds. Meanwhile, senior guard
Dana Brown tossed in 16 points and sophomore guard
Lynsey Timbrouck finished with five points, a career-high 15 boards and eight assists.
Pace had two players reach double-digit scoring totals. Junior forward Taylor Losey contributed 21 points, six rebounds and three steals while sophomore forward Brittany Huggins added 20 points, five caroms and three assists in 26 minutes off the bench.
Neither squad maintained more than a six-point edge throughout the first period, which was highlighted by four lead changes and a like number of ties. Saint Rose freshman guard
Ashley Rath cut a six-point deficit in half by nailing a trey with 26 seconds left to make it a 34-31 ballgame. The Setters converted a layup on the other end and held the Golden Knights scoreless in the waning moments to take a 36-31 lead at the break.
It was the first time all season Saint Rose trailed at halftime, which provided a wakeup call as the Golden Knights stormed out of the locker room with a 10-2 run that was capped off with a 3-point play by Revesz. Pace answered with a deep ball to tie the game at 41-41, thus igniting a 21-11 run that covered an 11-minute span and put the Setters up 11, 63-52, with 6:33 left. Saint Rose was unable to get closer than seven points the rest of the way.
The Golden Knights will head to Assumption College on Wednesday for a NE-10 contest in Worcester, MA. Tip-off is set for 5:30 pm. Pace will also hit the road for a league game at American International College beginning at 5:30 pm Wednesday.
