ALBANY – The College of Saint of Saint Rose women's soccer team won its third straight game on the strength of a 3-0 Northeast-10 Conference victory over visiting Saint Michael's this afternoon at Albany Academies East Campus. The Golden Knights (8-3-1/6-2-1 NE-10) have now taken four consecutive meetings against the Purple Knights (5-7-1/2-6-1 NE-10), all four of which have been shutouts.
Saint Rose dominated play throughout the contest to account for a 14-2 advantage in shots. The Golden Knights also generated a 13-4 edge in corner kicks and did not allow Saint Michael's to get off a shot in the second half.
Sophomore midfielder
Kristen Bidosky came off the bench and made her presence felt immediately for Saint Rose by finding the inside of the far post from 10-yards out just 57 seconds after she entered the match. It marked the second tally of the year for Bidosky and held up as her first game-winner.
Bidosky's impact was quite apparent in the early stages of the second stanza as well. The Purple Knights took the opening kick off to start the period, but Bidosky stole the drop pass and played the ball outside to a streaking senior forward
Kailey Egbert. Egbert took care of the rest by beating Saint Michael's freshman keeper Ashleigh Adams near post that made it a 2-0 affair in a matter of 10 seconds.
The Golden Knights gave themselves plenty of breathing room in the 68th minute when freshman forward Nicola D'Errico struck from 15-yards off a left-footed blast that found the top left corner. Sophomore fullback/midfielder
Coco Ebersole was responsible for setting up D'Errico, who registered her first goal in a Saint Rose uniform.
Junior keeper
Shannon Murphy needed to make only one save in the first half, while sophomore netminder
Jillian Lyons kept the ball out of the net throughout the final 45 minutes to help the Golden Knights chalk up their league-leading sixth shutout of the season. Adams turned aside four shots for the Purple Knights, while classmate Jess Woodworth stopped one shot throughout in 16:29 of action.
Saint Rose plays host to UMass Lowell on Saturday, which it led by one point in the league standings heading into today. Kick off is set for 1:00 pm at Albany Academy. Saint Michael's continues a three-game road trip on Saturday when the Purple Knights travel to American International for a 1:00 pm NE-10 match.
