#25 SAINT ROSE WOMEN'S SOCCER TEAM DEFEATS SAINT ANSELM 4-2

Senior forward Kailey Egbert
MANCHESTER, NH – The College of Saint Rose women's soccer team had four different players find the back of the net and freshman midfielder Christina Cuffari picked up a pair of assists to lead the Golden Knights to a 4-2 victory at Northeast-10 Conference rival Saint Anselm this afternoon. Saint Rose outshot the Hawks by a 16-8 margin, including 10-4 in the second period.

Sophomore forward Jordan Bowers and senior forward Kailey Egbert both registered their third markers of the year, while sophomore midfielder Katie Whiting and sophomore fullback Kaitlyn Berry had their first tallies for Saint Rose.

Freshman midfielder Teresa Vercollone and senior fullback Kathleen Kennerly accounted for the two Saint Anselm (3-6-2/2-3-2 NE-10) strikes.

Junior keeper Shannon Murphy was called upon to make just one save for Saint Rose (7-3-1/5-2-1 NE-10), which is ranked #25 in this week's NSCAA/Adidas NCAA Division II national poll. Meanwhile, senior Micaela Smith recorded three saves for Saint Anselm.

The Golden Knights owned a 1-0 lead at the break after Whiting scored off a free kick from just outside the box at the 15:27 mark. Saint Rose doubled its advantage in the opening two minutes of the second period when Cuffari drove a shot that ricocheted off the post to Egbert, who promptly converted the rebound. After Vercollone got Saint Anselm on the board less than a minute later, Bowers made it a 3-1 affair when she headed in a Cuffari corner in the 69th minute.

Saint Anselm again pulled to within a goal when Kennerly drove home a corner off the foot of sophomore midfielder Jennifer Pearl with 15 minutes showing on the clock. This time though, Saint Rose provided an immediate response as Berry beat Smith from 20-yards out off a set piece 33 seconds later.

The Golden Knights return home to host NE-10 rival Saint Michael's Wednesday at 3:30 pm. Meanwhile, Saint Anselm has a 3:30 pm conference date Tuesday at American International in Springfield.
