ALBANY – The College of Saint Rose women's soccer team tallied once in each half en route to a 2-0 Northeast-10 Conference victory over visiting American International this afternoon at Albany Academy. In the process, the 25th-ranked Golden Knights (6-3-1/4-2-1 NE-10) defeated the Yellow Jackets (6-4-1/1-4-1 NE-10) for the ninth straight time dating back to the 2001 campaign.
Junior midfielder
Courtenay Gannon wound up netting the game-winner in the 11th minute for Saint Rose, which held a commanding 15-4 advantage in shots and an 8-1 edge in corner kicks for the game. Gannon took advantage of an open net for her first marker of the season after sophomore forward
Jazmine Farrell and senior forward
Kailey Egbert forced American International junior keeper Kara Potts to come off her line.
In the 86th minute, the Golden Knights cashed in on their fifth and final corner of the second half off the right foot of freshman midfielder
Christina Cuffari. Cuffari bent a ball that flew over the head of Potts and ricocheted off the inside of the far post for her second strike of the year.
Saint Rose junior keeper
Shannon Murphy played all 90 minutes in goal and finished with two saves to register her second clean sheet of 2008. Meanwhile, Potts turned aside six shots for the Yellow Jackets.
The Golden Knights return to action Saturday when they travel to Saint Anselm for a 2:00 pm league match in Manchester, NH. American International is scheduled to host the University of New Haven in its first of three consecutive home matches at 1:00 pm Saturday.
