ALBANY, N.Y.- The College of Saint Rose men's lacrosse team exploded for a season high 23 goals in this afternoon's 23-12 Northeast-10 Conference win over the Assumption Greyhounds at Sullivan Field.Â
After Assumption scored the first goal of the game, senior attack
Eddie Baker answered just seven seconds later with the first of his five goals on the day. Baker took a feed from senior attack
Greg Walsh, who had a game-high three helpers to go along with two highlight-reel goals. Baker also tallied two assist to lead all players with seven points.Â
Following his first score, it would only take nine more seconds for Baker to tuck away his second goal and give the Golden Knights the lead, one they wouldn't give up for the remainder of the game.Â
The back-to-back goals from Baker started a rapid 4-0 run for the Golden Knights that came over the span of 1 minute and 33 seconds. It was freshman attack
Noah Gibson and sophomore middie
Nathan Ham who added the third and fourth goals for Saint Rose. Both Gibson and Ham registered a hat trick on the day, as Gibson finished with four goals and two assists while Ham added three scores and a helper.Â
Senior defenseman
Dominic Meola capped off the first-quarter scoring with a long-stick goal to give the Golden Knights a 6-4 lead after 15 minutes. That would be the closest quarter the teams would play, as the Golden Knights outscored the Greyhounds by three goal-margin in each of the remaining 3 quarters.Â
Senior attack
Sam Giachinta would add his name to the scoresheet in the second quarter with the Golden Knights final goal of the first half to give them an 11-6 going into the break. Giachinta also led Saint Rose with three caused turnovers.
The Golden Knights would eclipse their first-half scoring efforts in the final 30 minutes, as they netted 12 goals in the second half. Freshman midfielder
Jack Rice provided Saint Rose with a pair of scores in the third period to start the second-half charge.Â
Senior
Gabriel Nish capped the third quarter with his lone goal of the game, taking a feed from Gibson and ripping a shot past the Greyhound goalie with just two seconds remaining in the period. Â
Saint Rose would extend their lead in the fourth quarter with a 6-0 scoring run which included two goals from stick wizard senior attackman
Cam Smith, as well as scores from sophomore midfielder
Brady Frys and junior attack
Paul Wright.
Junior goalie
Ryan Gainor made 11 saves on the day, with six of them coming in the second quarter with the Golden Knights protecting a two-goal lead.Â
Prior to the game, the men's lacrosse team celebrated senior day by honoring the program's sixteen seniors. The group including former teammate
