LAFAYETTE HILL, PA.- The College of Saint Rose men's lacrosse team and the Chestnut Hill Griffins needed overtime to settle their non-conference tilt today, with the Griffins prevailing 10-9 on a goal from attacker Sam Slater in the opening minutes of the extra session.
Slater found the back of the net with 1:16 elapsed in overtime to give Chestnut Hill the comeback win. The Golden Knights had jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first quarter, with senior attack
Eddie Baker opening the scoring less than a minute into the game and followed it up a few minutes later with his second.
Fellow senior attackman
Cam Smith would follow up Baker's back-to-back goals with a pair of his own to contribute to the early lead. Baker finished with 4 goals, while Smith tallied 3.
Chestnut Hill would chip away at the Saint Rose and the teams went into halftime with the Golden Knights up 6-5.
Saint Rose freshman middie
Noah Gibson started the second half scoring with a goal off a feed from freshman midfielder
Jack Rice to extend the Golden Knights lead to 7-5.
A goal from Golden Knight senior attacker
Sam Giachinta would make it 9-6 with 4:30 left to play in the third quarter. However, it would be all Griffins from there, as Chestnut Hill would score the final 4 goals of the game to secure the 10-9 win.
Gibson and Giachinta each finished with a goal and an assist, while junior goalie
Ryan Gainor made 14 saves on the afternoon for the Golden Knights.
Looking forward, Saint Rose returns home to Sullivan Field to host Roberts Wesleyan on Saturday at 12:00 pm.
