GOLDEN KNIGHTS UPEND NE10 RIVAL SAINT MICHAEL’S IN THRILLING OVERTIME FASHION

ALBANY, N.Y. – The College of Saint Rose stood its ground at the most opportune time to come up with today's 11-10 overtime victory against visiting Northeast-10 Conference rival Saint Michael's.

The Purple Knights (1-9/0-5 NE10) overcame a 10-6 deficit by scoring four unanswered goals over of the final 7:22 of regulation to bring about an additional session. They subsequently won the faceoff to commence overtime, but turned it over to allow the Golden Knights a chance that they did not waste.

Saint Rose cleared successfully and called timeout to get its offense set. Fifth-year attack Jack Pemrick made the effort pay off by scoring his 50th career goal with 1:44 remaining to allow the Golden Knights (7-4/2-2 NE10) to improve to 4-1 at home this spring.

"Our upperclassmen leadership showed in the end. It allowed us to play through some adversity and come out with a key NE10 win against a well-prepared and talented Saint Michael's team," said Head Coach Alex Williams.

Pemrick and fifth-year attack Brendan Sheedy each scored three goals, fifth-year midfielder John Loughlin scored a pair, and junior midfielder Gabriel Nish contributed two assists to lead the Saint Rose offense. Defensively, sophomore midfielder Luke Pemrick caused three turnovers while junior goalie Ryan Fleming recorded 12 saves.

Freshman midfielder Sebastian Simonson recorded four goals and senior midfielder Kyle Hirshom finished with two goals and a pair of assists for the Purple Knights. Sophomore goalie Spencer Scardino came up with 16 stops.

The contest swung both ways throughout the first half, before turning in to a set of runs in the second half.

The opening 20 minutes featured three ties, before Pemrick scored unassisted with 1:28 left in the second to afford the Golden Knights a 5-4 halftime lead. Saint Rose then scored five of the initial seven, second half strikes to take a seemingly commanding 10-6 lead midway through the fourth quarter.

Saint Michael's made one final charge though. Hirshom scored unassisted with 28 seconds remaining and the Purple Knights controlled the ensuing faceoff, which allowed Simonson to find the back of the cage with a mere three ticks left to bring about overtime.

However, the Golden Knights did not break in the end.

Looking ahead, both squads have stern tests ahead of them Saturday with nationally ranked teams on their respective dockets. Saint Rose hosts #15 Saint Anselm at 1:00 pm, while Saint Michael's travels to Long Island to face #4 Adelphi.
