SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The College of Saint Rose scored six times in the second quarter and never trailed on the way to tonight's 15-7 victory at Northeast-10 Conference rival American International. In the process, the Golden Knights (6-4/1-2 NE10) snapped a three-game skid.
Â
Saint Rose caused a season-high 18 of the Yellow Jackets' (1-8/0-4 NE10) 27 turnovers and seven different players figured in the goal scoring column.
Â
"It's great to get a league win on the road and have a lot of players contribute. We were focused on both ends of the field throughout the entire 60 minutes tonight and it showed. We're looking forward to getting back home on Wednesday to face a demanding Saint Michael's squad," said Head Coach
Alex Williams.
Â
Junior attacks
Eddie Baker and
Cam Smith scored six and four goals respectively to lead the Golden Knights (6-4/1-2 NE10) offense. Baker also handed out a pair of assists, while fifth-year attack
Brendan Sheedy had a goal and two helpers.
Â
Fifth-year attack
Jack Pemrick, junior midfielder
Gabriel Nish, and sophomore attack
Paul Wright all had one goal apiece. Also, junior defenseman
Riley Hauf recorded four caused turnovers and came up with six ground balls, while sophomore defenseman
Edward Wurszt created three American International miscues. Junior goalie
Ryan Fleming made 14 saves.
Â
On the other side, junior attack Rusty Stone scored three goals to lead American International.
Â
It was a tight contest in the early going as the Yellow Jackets twice responded from one-goal deficits to forge a 2-2 tie in the opening minute of the second quarter. Saint Rose then closed out the final 10:31 of the period with a 6-2 surge that made it an 8-4 game at halftime. American International got no closer than within four goals the rest of the way.
Â
Looking ahead, both squads have home conference dates Wednesday. Saint Rose hosts Saint Michael's at 4:00 pm, while American International takes on Bentley at 7:00 pm.
Notes: Three of the Golden Knights four setbacks this season have come at the hands of nationally ranked teams…Meanwhile, the team's six wins this spring are already the third highest in program history…Saint Rose won nine games in 2018 and seven in its inaugural 2012 campaign…Baker now has 30 goals on the season…He is just the seventh player in program annals to reach that mark.
