LATE FIRST PERIOD SURGE PUSHES SAINT ROSE PAST DOMINICAN

ALBANY, N.Y. – The College of Saint Rose scored four unanswered goals in the final six minutes of the first period to put itself in the driver's seat of today's 17-6 triumph at Dominican.

The Golden Knights engineered a school record 59 shots, scooped up 50 groundballs, and had nine different players figure in the goal scoring column.

"We continue to grow and learn from our mistakes. Today we were able find ways to create multiple opportunities on possessions. It was great to see us connect our defense to our offense through transition, while having a fast and aggressive mindset," said head coach Alex Williams.

The Golden Knights (3-1) put that mindset on display by striking four more times within a four-minute stretch midway through the second stanza on the way to an 8-3 halftime lead. They subsequently owned a nine goal cushion on three occasions during the fourth period.

Junior attack Cam Smith led the Saint Rose offense again with six points behind four goals and a pair of assists. Fifth-year midfielder John Loughlin scored three times and set up another, while junior attack Eddie Baker and junior midfielder Gabriel Nish finished with three and two goals respectively.

Sophomore defenseman Edward Wurszt and senior defenseman Dominic Meola both caused a pair of Chargers (1-1) miscues, while junior goalie Ryan Fleming recorded 14 saves over the distance.

Sophomore midfielders Terence O'Loughlin and William Gordon each scored twice for Dominican.

Looking ahead, both teams return to action with 1:00 pm games Saturday. The Golden Knights take on Post University at Sullivan Field at The Plumeri Sports Complex, while the Chargers travel to Rindge, N.H. to face Franklin Pierce.
Notes: Smith was named the Northeast-10 Conference Player of the Week and Fleming the conference's Goalie of the Week on Monday…Saint Rose has outscored its last two opponents 38-10 and has engineered a 102-62 shot advantage within that time span…Baker has at least three goals in all four games this spring.
