SAINT ROSE FALLS TO NE10 SOUTHWEST DIVISION LEADER ADELPHI


ALBANY, N.Y. – The College of Saint Rose fell behind early and could not recover in today's 76-60 loss to visiting Northeast-10 Conference Southwest Division leader Adelphi.
 
The Panthers (17-6//1-4 NE10) outrebounded the Golden Knights 45-24, including 19-7 on the offensive glass, and shot 40.7 percent (11-for27) from long distance to win their seventh straight.
 
Adelphi got out to a 10-point lead in the opening seven minutes and went in the locker room up 36-23 at intermission. The Golden Knights (10-11/7-9 NE10) hung tough and got to within 11, 51-40, after freshman guard Tray Alexander knocked down a 3-pointer with 12:20 to go in the ballgame. However, the Panthers responded with four unanswered points to put themselves in control the rest of the way.
 
Freshman forward Shane O'Dell had another big game with 26 points and five rebounds. He also drew five fouls. Alexander finished with 21 points, two shy of his career high, and five assists without committing a turnover. Sophomore forward Eric Fleming added six points and a team-high seven boards.
 
Graduate student guard Chris Coalmon led four Adelphi players in double-figures scoring with 17 points. Fellow graduate student guard Adonis Williams recorded a "double-double" behind 11 points and 14 boards, while senior guard Ronnie Silva tossed in 15 points and passed around five assists.
 
Going forward, Saint Rose is back home next Saturday to take on Southern Connecticut State for Senior Day. Tip-off is set for 3:30 pm following the women's 1:30 pm tilt. Meanwhile, the Panthers head to Manchester on Monday to face Southern New Hampshire at 5:30 pm.
Notes: This afternoon marked the final leg of a four-game, seven-day stretch for the Golden Knights…Alexander has been in double-figures scoring throughout 10 of the past 11 contests…He is eighth in the country and tops the NE10 with 6.1 assists per outing…He is locked in a three-way tie for the league lead with a 2.2 steals average…O'Dell has been in double-figures scoring in 14 straight outings and remains among the conference's leading scorers and rebounders…He is third with a 20.0 scoring average and stands eighth behind 7.3 rebounds per game…In addition, he is fifth with a 1.1 blocks average…The Panthers are now 10-2 on the road this season…They own the second best scoring defense in the NE10, limiting opponents to 67.4 points on a regular basis.
