ALBANY, N.Y. – The College of Saint Rose shot 55.6 percent (35-for-63) from the floor and overcame an early 9-0 deficit to run past Northeast-10 Conference rival Southern Connecticut State 93-61 on Senior Day this afternoon.
Fifth-year guard
Adam Anderson shined on a day he was recognized for his outstanding career in a pregame ceremony. Senior forward
Kevin Lynch shared the spotlight with him.
Anderson recorded season-highs of 24 points, on 6-for-10 shooting from the arc, and eight rebounds to help the Golden Knights (11-11/8-9 NE10) snap a four-game slide. His fellow backcourt mate and freshman guard
Tray Alexander had a big game as well by tying his career-best with 23 points, to go along with nine assists and six steals.
Sophomore swing
Cartier Bowman contributed 10 points, behind 4-for-5 shooting, and eight boards; and sophomore forward
Eric Fleming added nine points and seven rebounds.
"This was a great team win. We really wanted to send Adam and Kevin out with a win on Senior Day. Our defensive energy set the tone and we were able to capitalize when we got stops. I thought Tray and Adam played well and stepped up at crucial times, and we dished out 17 assists in unselfish fashion," said head coach
Mike Perno.
Saint Rose responded from being behind by outscoring the Owls (7-16/4-13 NE10) 43-16 throughout the final 15 minutes of the first half to go in the locker room up 18.
Southern Connecticut State cut its deficit to 13, 47-34, with 14:51 to go in the ballgame, but the Golden Knights rattled off 11 unanswered points during the ensuing two minutes to increase its lead to 24, 58-34. It pretty much remained a 20 to 25-point ballgame the rest of the way.
For the Owls, sophomore guard Lyron Bennet and senior guard Isaiah Boissard scored 16 and 12 points respectively.
Looking ahead, both teams get right back at it with conference games Monday. The Golden Knights host American International at 7:00 pm in their final home regular-season date of the year, while Southern Connecticut State takes on Saint Anselm at 1:00 pm.
