PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y.- The College of Saint Rose and Pace University required overtime to settle today's Northeast-10 Conference battle, with the host Setters holding on to take a 78-76 victory.
Freshman guard
Max Jusianiec tallied a career-best 26 points to top all scorers. Jusianiec was nearly unstoppable from downtown, as he connected on 6-of-7 on three-pointers, in addition to 7 rebounds and 4 blocks.
Shane O'Dell finished with 20 points and 8 rebounds, while junior forward
Josh McGettigan and freshman guard
Latiek Briscoe logged 16 and 10 points respectively. Briscoe added 6 rebounds and 5 assists in an all-around effort.
After Pace built a lead that reached 17 points in the first half, the Golden Knights would respond with a 24-7 rally to level the action at 38-38 six minutes into the second half. The two teams would trade the lead 11 times over the final 14 minutes of the frame, before the Golden Knights edged ahead 62-57 with 1:51 left.Â
The closing minutes of regulation would belong to Pace however, with the Setters scoring the final five points to force the extra session. The momentum carried into overtime for the hosts as well, as Pace scored 9 of the first 11 points of the frame.Â
A late push by Saint Rose cut a 77-70 deficit with 40 seconds remaining to just one point with 11 ticks left, but a free throw and quality defense possession by the Setters would vanquish the Golden Knights comeback attempt.
Forward Frankyn Batista registered 20 points, 14 rebounds, and 3 blocks for the Setters, who received votes in the most recent D2SIDA Media Poll and NABC National Coaches Rankings. Guards Brandon Powell and Lyron Bennett each scored 15 points as well for Pace.
Looking forward, each team returns with a NE10 matchup on Wednesday night. The Golden Knights host #13/14 Bentley at 6:30 pm, while Pace heads to Adelphi for a 7:30 pm meeting.
