ALBANY, N.Y.- The College of Saint Rose took Northeast-10 Conference rival Bentley to overtime this evening, with the nationally ranked Falcons squeaking out a 81-74 victory inside Daniel P. Nolan Gymnasium.
Freshman guard
Latiek Briscoe topped Saint Rose with 20 points in the setback. Briscoe also tallied a team-best 9 rebounds. The freshman duo of
Max Jusianiec and Adam Dudzinkski recorded 15 points each, while junior forward
Josh McGettigan finished with 13 points. For Dudzinski, the 15-point scoring output marked a career-high for the forward.
The Golden Knights utilized a balanced scoring attack in the first half to take a 35-27 advantage into the intermission. Briscoe led Saint Rose offensively with 11 points across the first 20 minutes, while three other Golden Knights pitched in six points each.
Facing the eight point deficit, Bentley would own 20 of the first 28 points across the first nine minutes of the second half to push ahead 47-43. The Falcon advantage would be short lived, however, as the Golden Knights would respond with 12 consecutive points to re-establish the lead at 55-47 with 8:18 left.
Trailing once more, Bentley would formulate another key rally to level the action at 57-57, with forward Matt Leritz finishing an and-one opportunity to cap a 9-2 run for the Falcons.Â
Play stayed tight into the closing minutes of regulation before each side received a clutch basket late. After a three-pointer by guard Aaron Latham propelled Bentley ahead by two with 37 seconds left, Jusianiec forced overtime for the Golden Knights when his strong drive down the middle of the lane provided the game-tying score with 11 ticks remaining.Â
Following an even first three moments of overtime, Bentley would utilize a 7-0 spurt to establish control late in the extra session, before closing out the win at the free throw line.
Leritz finished with a game-high 27 points and 12 rebounds to lead Bentley, who was ranked #13 and #14, respectively, in the most recent NABC National Coaches Poll and D2SIDA National Media rankings. Zach Laput registered 22 and Latham scored 16 points as well for the Falcons.
Both squads next compete at 3:30 pm on Saturday afternoon. The Golden Knights host Adelphi, while Bentley continues its road trip at American International College.
