SAINT ROSE WITHSTANDS LATE RALLY TO EARN 79-75 WIN AT QUEENS COLLEGE

FLUSHING, N.Y.- The College of Saint Rose went wire-to-wire tonight to defeat Queens College in a non-conference clash. Saint Rose never trailed throughout the evening and had five players finish in double figures to earn the 79-75 road victory.

Sophomore forward Shane O'Dell, junior forward Josh McGettigan, and senior forward Juran Ligonde each recorded 16 points to lead the Golden Knights offensively. Freshman Latiek Briscoe and junior Eric Fleming tallied 12 points apiece as well for Saint Rose.

The Golden Knights led all 40 minutes on the way to the four-point win. O'Dell started the scoring with a layup on Saint Rose' opening possession and the Golden Knights would never look back from there.

Saint Rose would take a 45-40 lead into halftime, with Ligonde scoring all of his 16 points in the first half to propel the Golden Knights ahead.

Fleming would provide the play of the night five minutes into the second half, taking a pass from O'Dell, slicing down the lane, and finishing with authority as he threw down a right-handed slam. Fleming shot an efficient 5-for-7 from the floor while also co-leading the Golden Knights with 8 rebounds.

Saint Rose would extend its halftime to 19 with 13:50 left of the second half, however the host Knights would chip away at the margin for the remainder of regulation, leading to a jumper by Shamar Chester that would bring Queens to within 76-75 with a minute and a half to play.

McGettigan would step up big for the Golden Knights in the closing moments of the game, knocking down 3-of-4 free throws to hold off the late comeback.

Briscoe, making his New York City homecoming, registered 6 rebounds and 2 assists. Senior guard Frankie Phleming led the Golden Knights with 5 helpers. Sophomore guard Keegan Zoller would match Fleming with a team-high 8 boards.

Queens College got their scoring from Dion Herrington and Malik Bentinck, who each finished with 14 points. Jayden Seraphin would add 13 points.

The Golden Knights are back in action on Monday at 3:00 pm against Saint Thomas Aquinas in Sparkill, NY. Queens College's next game is also on Monday at home against Saint Michael's at 6:00 pm.
