MEN’S BASKETBALL DROPS NE10 OPENER AT SAINT MICHAELS

Colchester, VT - The College of Saint Rose opened Northeast-10 Conference play tonight against the Purple Knights of Saint Michael's College tonight, with the hosts taking the 78-70 win in Colchester, VT.

Sophomore forward Shane O'Dell lead all players with 21 points and eight rebounds tonight. Junior forward Eric Fleming made his season debut for the Golden Knights, coming off the bench to record 20 points, seven rebounds and two assists. Fleming was especially active in the first half, where he tallied 14 points on 6-of-7 shooting.

Saint Rose would go into the half trailing 45-36. The difference in the opening 20 minutes came from behind the arc, as Saint Michael's knocked down 8-of-22 first half threes while the Golden Knights would only see one of their ten shots fall from deep..

The Golden Knights would cut into Saint Michael's lead to start the second half, as a layup by O'Dell would get Saint Rose to within four with 18:18 left, however that would be the closest Saint Rose would get for the remainder of the evening.

Senior forward Juran Ligonde also reached double digits for the Golden Knights as he pitched in 11 points on 5-of-10 shooting.

Saint Michael's saw a balanced scoring attack as four players reached double figures, led by freshman guard Alan Brzezinski's 18 points. The Purple Knights 78 points came -on 41.7% shooting (25-for-60), including 11-for-33 from behind the arc (33.3%).

Saint Rose will look to bounce back as they return home to the Daniel P. Nolan Gymnasium on Tuesday to continue conference play vs. New Haven. Tip off is 7:30 pm. The Purple Knights next face Staten Island at 1:00 pm on Tuesday afternoon.
