ALBANY, N.Y. – The College of Saint Rose had 10 players score in this afternoon's season-opening 18-10 defeat of visiting Post.Â
Freshman attack
Connor Kinney dished out a program single-game record seven assists in the home win. The rookie, one of five Saint Rose players to record three or more points, scored twice to total nine points.
Junior midfielder
Kyle Meoli fired home a career-high four goals, while freshman goalie
Ryan Fleming stopped eight Eagle shots across the opening 45 minutes to earn the victory in goal.
"Today was a good opening win," said Head Coach
Jim Morrissey. "We had a lot of new faces out there. They had some jitters early, but settled down. Defensively, we have some things to tighten up, but overall today was a solid win that we can learn from moving forward."
Â
Up 9-2 at the break, the Golden Knights (1-0) outscored the visitors 7-1 in the third period to increase their control of the non-conference game. Post (0-3) was able to mount a bit of a comeback against Saint Rose in the fourth for the final margin. Freshman attack Nick Meier led the Eagles with three goals.
Â
Looking ahead, both teams are home Saturday afternoon. Saint Rose begins Northeast-10 Conference play with a 3:00 pm date with Saint Michael's. The game will follow the women's lacrosse team's home debut at noon versus District of Columbia. Meanwhile, Post faces visiting Saint Thomas Aquinas at 1:00 pm.
Notes: Carter Badour '19 and
Matt Graham '18 shared the program's previous single-game assist record with six.
