SAINT ROSE WALKS OFF WITH WIN IN OPENER OF SENIOR DAY TO CAP SEASON WITH A SPLIT VERSUS NEW HAVEN

ALBANY, N.Y. – Junior shortstop Andrew Pedone drove a bases loaded single to center field with one down in the ninth to propel The College of Saint Rose to a 6-5 game-one victory against visiting Northeast-10 Conference rival New Haven this afternoon. The Chargers then took the second game 6-4.

The Golden Knights (12-25/6-17 NE10) opened up a 4-2 lead in the eighth, but New Haven pushed across three runs in the ninth to go ahead 6-5. Sophomore pinch hitter Stephan MacMeans drove an 0-2 pitch to right field to load the bases in the bottom half. Junior second baseman Patrick LaDouce then drew a walk to force in the tying run. Pedone ended it a batter later.

Saint Rose got out to a 2-0 lead in the first when junior catcher Jon Montesanti brought home LaDouce with a sacrifice fly. Pedone then scored on a passed ball.

New Haven countered with one in the third and another in the eighth, before the Golden Knights seemingly put themselves in control with two in the home half behind a Pedone RBI base hit and a Chargers error. However, New Haven answered in the top of the ninth to set the stage for the dramatic finish.

Pedone went 3-for-5 with two runs scored and a pair of RBI, while senior first baseman Nicolas Teitter wound up 2-for-4 to lead the Saint Rose offense. Senior left-hander Brandon Budlong tossed 3.0 innings of one-hit, shutout ball out of the bullpen.

Freshman shortstop Noah Budzik went 2-for-5 and drove home a pair of runs, while senior right-hander Chris Leindecker allowed two earned runs and fanned nine throughout 8.0 innings of a no-decision outing to lead the Chargers.

In the finale, Saint Rose built itself another 4-2 cushion. However, New Haven cut its deficit in half with a run in the sixth and then added three more an inning later to close out the scoring.

Freshman third baseman Tyler Osborne drove a two-run triple to right in the fifth and junior center fielder Garrett Klahr had an RBI base hit in the fourth to propel the Golden Knights offense. Junior right-hander Frankie Pizzo surrendered three runs on four hits in 5.2 innings of work on the bump. Freshman right-hander Tanner Beang tossed 2.0 innings of one-hit ball in relief.

Senior first baseman Andrew Garcia wound up 2-for-5 with a pair of RBI, while sophomore right-hander Izaiya Mestre surrendered just a hit over the final 3.0 innings to pick up the save.
