AUGUSTA, Ga. – The College of Saint Rose was finally able to open its spring break trip yesterday after weather had wiped out nearly half the journey. The Golden Knights (1-5) unfortunately dropped both games with a 10-9, 10 inning setback at August and a 21-9 loss at Claflin.
In the first game, Saint Rose jumped out to an 8-2 lead in the seventh, but Augusta (10-10) scored three times in its home half and added one in the eighth and two in the ninth, before bringing across the game-winner with two down in the tenth.
Senior left fielder
Justin Sportman finished 3-for-5 with a pair of runs scored, while junior catcher
Jon Montesanti went 2-for-3 and drove in three runs to propel the Golden Knights offense. Senior first baseman
Nicolas Teitter also had a pair of base hits.
In the nightcap, the Golden Knights got up early again with an 8-5 lead, but Claflin (12-4) pushed across eight runs in the home half of the sixth to take control. Senior designated hitter
Kenny Fils-Aime finished 3-for-4 with a pair of RBI and two doubles, while senior centerfielder
Alexander Koshgarian went 3-for-5 with three runs scored for Saint Rose.
Looking ahead, the Golden Knights have a 2:00 pm game at Benedict College today in Columbia, S.C. Meanwhile, Augusta has a 6:00 pm game at Young Harris College Friday, while Claflin hosts Florida Southern College for a three-game weekend series beginning Friday at 5:00 pm.
