SAINT ROSE ROARS BACK FROM THREE DOWN IN THE NINTH TO GAIN SPLIT AT NE10 RIVAL BENTLEY

WALTHAM, Mass. – The College of Saint Rose scored four runs with two outs in the bottom of the ninth to upend host Bentley 9-8 in the finale of today's Northeast-10 Conference opening doubleheader for both squads. The Falcons (4-12/1-1) took the opener 5-0 in a twin-bill that had the Golden Knights (5-8/1-1 NE10) batting last as the two games were originally scheduled to be played in Albany.

Junior Garrett Klahr provided the big blow behind a three-run, pinch hit double to right that tied the game 8-8. Sophomore right fielder Stephan MacMeans followed with a base hit that brought across Klahr with the winning run.

Previously, senior designated hitter Kenny Fils-Aime slapped a single through the left side while senior center fielder Alexander Koshgarian and junior shortstop Andrew Pedone drew walks to set the stage for Klahr and MacMeans.

Fils-Aime finished 3-for-5 with a pair of runs scored and MacMeans wound up 2-for-4 with two RBI. Meanwhile, freshman right-hander Jared Restmeyer tossed 4.0 innings of two-hit, shutout ball in only his second collegiate appearance.

Bentley jumped out to a 5-0 lead after three innings, but Saint Rose bounced back with a four-run fourth and added another in the seventh to tie it 5-5. The Falcons then scored once in the eighth and two times in the ninth to seemingly put themselves on the verge of a sweep.

Fils-Aime was at the center of much of the offense. He stroked a leadoff double to left-center in the fourth and scored on a sacrifice fly off the bat of senior first baseman Nicolas Teitter. MacMeans then belted an RBI double down the left field line, and freshman catcher Max Gebauer added an RBI single that yielded another run on a Bentley error. Freshman third baseman Tyler Osborne then led off the seventh with a triple to center and scored on a Fils-Aime base hit.

In today's first game, Bentley took a 1-0 lead in the seventh and then broke it open with four runs in the eighth. The Golden Knights had their chances, but stranded a pair in the second, fourth, and fifth innings. Teitter went 2-for-3 with a double, while senior left-hander Greg Musk allowed a run on six hits in 7.0 innings of work. He also fanned five without issuing a walk.

Looking ahead, both sides have league games set for Wednesday. The Golden Knights are scheduled to host Upstate Challenge rival Le Moyne, while the Falcons take on Merrimack.
