SAINT ROSE FIGHTS BACK TO UPEND UPSTATE CHALLENGE RIVAL LE MOYNE

ALBANY, N.Y. – The College of Saint Rose bounced back from a 1-0 deficit to take today's 2019 home opener with an 8-1 Northeast-10 Conference Southwest Division win versus Upstate Challenge rival Le Moyne. The Golden Knights (6-8/2-1 NE10) answered the Dolphins' run in the fourth and then broke it open with three more in the fifth and four in the sixth.

Senior right-hander Stephen Hill scattered seven hits and did not allow an earned run while fanning six over the distance to go to 2-0 on the year.

He got help from battery mate Jon Montesanti who belted a two-out, three-run homer in the fifth. An inning later, junior second baseman Brian Hill smacked a two-run single, junior shortstop Andrew Pedone hit a sacrifice fly, and senior first baseman Nicolas Teitter drove an RBI double to center to account for the four runs.

"This was a good team win. Hill pitched great, we had good at bats, and some key hits to score some runs in the middle of the game. We battled back from early adversity and it was a good way to start divisional play," said head coach Wayne Jones.

For Le Moyne, senior catcher Camillo Spinoso finished 3-for-3 with a double and a walk.

Looking ahead, both squads have three-game NE10 divisional road series this weekend. The Golden Knights travel to Southern Connecticut State, while the Dolphins visit Pace University.
Notes: Hill lowered his ERA to 1.71, which puts him sixth among the NE10 leaders…Teitter and Pedone have reached base in 10 and nine consecutive games respectively.
