GOLDEN KNIGHTS DROP HEARTBREAKER IN FIRST GAME OF SEASON OPENING TWIN-BILL VERSUS #21 WEST CHESTER

ASHTON, Pa. – The College of Saint Rose dropped a heartbreaking 6-5, 10 inning affair in the matinee and fell 3-0 in the finale of today's season-opener doubleheader versus West Chester at Maplezone Sports Institute. The Golden Rams entered the afternoon ranked #21 in the latest United States Baseball Writers Association (USBWA) National Poll.

In the first contest that was scheduled for seven innings, West Chester (2-0) twice rallied from two-run deficits before pushing across the game-winner in the tenth. The Golden Knights (0-2) took a 3-1 lead heading to the last of the seventh and pushed across another pair to go up 5-3 in the ninth, but West Chester was equal to the task on each occasion. Sophomore shortstop Justin Horn delivered a bases loaded single to center that brought across the difference maker.

Junior catcher Jon Montesanti and senior outfielder Justin Sportman had two hits apiece, while freshman right fielder Tyler Osborne and junior left fielder Garrett Klahr both tripled to propel Saint Rose.

On the mound, senior southpaw Greg Musk allowed a run on six hits and fanned five throughout 6.0 innings of a no-decision outing.

In the finale, the Golden Rams jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first and tacked on two more in the third. Junior second baseman Brian Hill finished 2-for-3 while freshman right-hander Cameron Flynn hurled 3.0 innings of one one-hit, shutout ball out of the bullpen.

Looking ahead, the Golden Knights conclude their weekend trip tomorrow with a noon twin-bill at East Stroudsburg. Meanwhile, West Chester has a 3:00 pm doubleheader Monday versus Jefferson University.
