LATE RALLY COMES UP SHORT IN FINALE AT NE10 RIVAL MERRIMACK

DANVERS, Mass. – A ninth inning rally by The College of Saint Rose in today's second game came up short and thus host Merrimack was able to capture both ends of a Northeast-10 Conference doubleheader on the Saint John's Prep campus. The Warriors (11-12/4-6 NE10) won the finale 4-2 after taking the opener 7-1.

The Golden Knights (9-12/2-4 NE10) trailed 4-1 heading to the final frame when junior first baseman Nicolas Teitter drove a leadoff double down the left field line. He advanced to third on a groundout and scored on a double off the bat of junior designated hitter Alexander Koshgarian.

However, sophomore right-hander Stephen Fleury came out of the bullpen to retire the final two Saint Rose batters.

Koshgarian wound up 3-for-4, senior center fielder Brian Uliana went 2-for-4, and Teitter finished 2-for-5 to propel the Golden Knights offense. Junior right-hander Zak Shaw fanned five without allowing a walk over the distance. Meanwhile, sophomore first baseman Thomas Joyce drove in three runs for Merrimack.

In the opener, the Warriors jumped out to a 6-1 lead after three innings to put themselves in the catbird seat. Freshman second baseman Francisco Infante finished 2-for-3 with a double, while junior catcher Nick Schaub had an RBI base hit in the second. Center fielder Tyler Lyne, a graduate student, went 4-for-5 with a pair of runs scored and two RBI for Merrimack.

Looking ahead, both teams have noon NE10 twin-bills on tap for tomorrow. Saint Rose heads to Worcester to take on Assumption, while the Warriors host #20 Le Moyne.
Notes: Uliana has now reached base in 10 straight games. He also has a team-leading eight multi-hit performances this spring.
