ROCHESTER, N.Y. –The College of Saint Rose opened the 2018 season with an 11-6 defeat to No. 12 Mercyhurst on Saturday afternoon. The Lakers (2-1/0-0 G-MAC) outscored Saint Rose 3-0 in the final quarter of their neutral (Nazareth College) victory.
Sophomore attack
Jordyn Marchiano led the Golden Knights' offense with two goals and two assists. Junior attack
Carter Badour added a goal and a helper, while freshman midfielder
John Loughlin recorded his first collegiate goal in his Saint Rose debut. Senior midfielder
Lucas Frese won 7-of-9 face-offs to help the Golden Knights enjoy a 12-8 advantage in the X, while junior goalie
Liam Guiton made seven stops for Saint Rose (0-1/0-0 Northeast-10 Conference).
The Lakers, which outscored the Golden Knights 7-3 after halftime, received five goals from senior midfielder Oran Horn. Junior midfielder Sam Crusha added three for Mercyhurst, who capitalized on three of its four second half man-up opportunities.
Looking ahead, both teams will have their home openers on tap. Saint Rose hosts No. 16/18 Mercy on Tuesday, February 27 at 3:00 pm. Mercyhurst entertains Limestone on Sunday, March 4 at noon.
