GOLDEN KNIGHTS EARN FIRST WIN OF THE YEAR

DEFEAT POST 16-11

ALBANY, N.Y.–A 6-0 first-half run propelled The College of Saint Rose to its first victory of the season, 16-11 versus Post University in non-conference action this afternoon at the Plumeri Sports Complex.

"The guys have been working hard and definitely deserved the win today," said head coach Jim Morrissey. "Give Post a lot of credit. They did not give up when we had a big lead at the half and made it very difficult for us in the end. I think that second half adversity will serve us well moving forward."

On an afternoon when Saint Rose (1-4) had its highest scoring output of the spring, the Golden Knights received a career-high four goals from sophomore attack Carter Badour. Junior midfielder Matt Graham contributed three goals and an assist, and freshman attack Jordyn Marchiano finished with a pair of strikes and two helpers.

Saint Rose was all over the visitors early, taking a 2-0 lead 1:10 in on goals by senior midfielder Connor Moore and Marchiano.  After an Eagles goal, Moore ignited the 6-0 Saint Rose run throughout a 13:06 span that eventually yielded an 11-3 halftime lead.

Senior attackmen Paul Hylan and Trevor Buchas scored four goals each to lead Post (1-4), which compiled a 6-2 third quarter run to tighten the affair.

However, the young Saint Rose defense, anchored by sophomores Jeremy Pariseau and James Fennessy; and freshmen James Murphy and Ben Boggans, stood tall in the fourth by not allowing the Eagles to get closer than within four goals. Boggans, who caused a game-high four turnovers, recorded his first collegiate goal with 1:57 remaining to close the scoring.

The work of sophomore midfielder Nicolas Johnson and junior midfielder Lucas Frese in the X helped key the fast Saint Rose start. The duo won the game's first 10 face-offs and 21-of-31 overall.

In goal, sophomore Liam Guiton stopped 10 Eagle shots and gathered a game-high seven groundballs. Moore and junior attack Evan Doherty each totaled a pair of goals for Saint Rose.

Looking ahead, both teams are back in action Saturday. The Golden Knights visit #20 Saint Anselm for a 12:00 pm Northeast-10 Conference date in Manchester, N.H. while Post hosts the University of the District of Columbia at 1:00 pm.
