DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. – The College of Saint Rose men's lacrosse team had two players score their first collegiate goals in the season opener at No. 10 Mercy. Sophomore defenseman

Justin Degener each recorded their first tally in the Golden Knights 12-5 loss.

Liam Guiton finished with 15 saves for Saint Rose (0-1).

The Mavericks (3-0) were led with six points (five goals and one assist) by freshman attack Tommy McPartland, five points (two goals and three assists) from sophomore midfielder Ryan MacSpadyen and four points (three goals, one assist) by graduate middie Kevin McNally.

The visitors got on the board first when Fennessy fired the ball into the cage just 47 seconds in.Â

Mercy knotted the score on a goal by senior midfielder Nick Wilcox with 6:09 left in the opening period. The home team added to its advantage less than a minute later on a MacSpadyen tally.Â

With 45 seconds remaining in the first quarter, junior attack

Connor Moore to tie the contest.Â

The home team took control in the second quarter, scoring four times and keeping Saint Rose off the board.Â

McPartland gave the Mavericks a lead 96 seconds into the second period. Mercy added to its lead with a man-up goal by McNally midway through the period.Â

MacSpadyen and McPartland each scored their second goals of the afternoon in the final 75 seconds of the half.Â

Though entering the locker room down 6-2, the Golden Knights were out shooting Mercy 17-16.Â

Saint Rose got the run stopped with a pair of goals in the first two minutes of the third period. Sophomore defenseman
Jeremy Pariseau recorded his first collegiate point by assisting a goal by junior attack
Matt Graham. Just 39 seconds later, sophomore attack
Carter Badour lasered one home.

Mercy responded with two goals in 1:45 to get its advantage back to four as we entered the final quarter.

McPartland scored three times in the final period. The rookie completed the hat trick 3:12 in before twice sending a MacSpadyen dish past Guiton.

Degener broke the scoring drought with 3:25 left in the game.

McNally finished his hat trick with two minutes remaining to close the scoring.

Defensively, Pariseu led the Golden Knights with two caused turnovers, while seniors Moore,
Joe Shapiro and
Tyler Mello each gathered up three groundballs. Sophomore
Nicolas Johnson and junior
Lucas Frese won 10-of-21 face-off opportunities collectively.

For Mercy, sophomore defender Luke Baron led all players with three caused turnovers and five groundballs, and sophomore goalie Ryan Gibbons stopped 14 Saint Rose shots.

The Golden Knights next play on Thursday March 2 when they visit Saint Thomas Aquinas at 3:30 pm. Meanwhile, the Mavericks visit Seton Hill Saturday at 12:00 pm.
