GRAHAM'S RECORD SETTING DAY PROPELS SAINT ROSE PAST AMERICAN INTERNATIONAL


SPRINGFIELD, MA-The College of Saint Rose registered its highest offensive output of the season to upend host Northeast-10 Conference rival American International 17-6 this afternoon. Sophomore attack Matt Graham led the way by setting a pair of single-game school records. He finished with five goals and became the first player in Saint Rose annals to record six assists and 11 points.
 
Overall, the Golden Knights (3-8/1-5 NE-10) engineered a 49-30 shot differential and won 16-of-27 face-off opportunities.
 
Five others also figured in the balanced offensive effort. Sophomore midfielder Connor Moore finished with three goals and a pair of helpers and sophomore attack Tom Horan struck three times as well. Senior midfielders Mike Balla and Cameron Fisher, and sophomore attack Evan Doherty all added a a pair of goals.
 
Furthermore, senior midfielder Jon Munroe came up with seven ground balls and freshman midfielder Nicolas Johnson and sophomore specialist Lucas Frese each won eight face-offs. In goal, junior Joe Shapiro recorded a career-high 15 saves.
 
Saint Rose opened up a 3-0 lead in the opening seven minutes and never looked back. Balla made it 1-0 when he finished a feed from junior midfielder Josh Frese with 11:49 to go in the first quarter. Fisher and Graham then scored 57 seconds apart. Graham later added another, and Moore made it a 5-1 affair with 9:54 remaining until intermission.
 
The Golden Knights eventually removed just about all doubt about the eventual outcome by scoring four times within a three minute span of the third quarter. Horan accounted for a pair, while Moore and Doherty struck for the other two that subsequently made it 10-3 Saint Rose.
 
On the other side, freshman attack Lucas Bombardier finished with two goals and a pair of assists, and junior attack Eric Overdahl also struck twice for the Yellow Jackets (0-11/0-8 NE-10).
 
Looking ahead, the Golden Knights are back on the road Saturday with a 4:00 pm date at NE-10 rival and fourth-ranked Merrimack in North Andover, MA. Meanwhile, American International is back home Friday with a 7:00 pm league encounter with Bentley.
