BIG INNING COST SAINT ROSE IN SETBACK AT UPSTATE CHALLENGE RIVAL

SYRACUSE–The College of Saint Rose stranded 10 runners and allowed host Upstate Challenge rival Le Moyne to score seven times in the third inning that permitted the Dolphins to chalk up a 10-3 Northeast-10 Conference victory today.

Sophomore right fielder Sean Maki belted a two-run homer in the ninth and junior third baseman Alex Chandler had a sacrifice fly in the fifth to account for the three Golden Knights (16-14/10-5 NE-10) runs.

Furthermore, junior shortstop Tyler Ungerland continued to swing a hot bat with a double in the third and a base hit in the first, while senior left fielder Nick Venier finished 3-for-4.

On the mound, sophomore right-hander Alex Tomlinson, junior righty Austin Von Herbulis, and freshman right-hander Taylor LeClair tossed a collective 5.2 innings of four-hit ball out of the bullpen.

Junior right-hander Damian Powers scattered seven hits and fanned 13 throughout 6.0 innings of work to go to 4-3 on the year for the Dolphins (22-14/10-6 NE-10).

Looking ahead, the Golden Knights are home tomorrow and Sunday for a key three-game NE-10 series with Adelphi as only three games in the loss column separate first from seventh place in the Southwest Division. Meanwhile, Le Moyne has a division series with visiting New Haven this weekend.

Notes: Ungerland lifted his NE-10 leading batting average to .455 (46-for-101). He has now hit in nine straight games at a .581 (18-for-31) clip. Meanwhile, Venier has reached base in 20 consecutive contests. As a team, the Golden Knights are 9-1 when leading after seven innings and the pitching staff has held opposing hitters to a .227 batting average throughout the past 22 games during which they have gone 16-6.
