GOLDEN KNIGHTS TRADE LOPSIDED CONTESTS WITH ADELPHI

ALBANY-The College of Saint Rose fell to Adelphi, 16-3 in the early game on Saturday, before recording a 7-1 victory in the nightcap of a Northeast-10 Conference doubleheader at Bob Bellizzi Field.

The Golden Knights (17-14/11-5 NE-10) got on the board in the bottom of the second inning on a sacrifice fly from sophomore designated hitter Alec Caprarella to cut the Adelphi (22-20/12-10 NE-10) lead to 2-1. However, the Panthers' bats could not be contained as they scored three runs in the third inning, five in the fifth and four in the seventh to take command of the game.

Senior center fielder Derek Reed went 2-for-5 with two runs scored and an RBI, while junior second baseman Mike Flynn finished 2-for-4 with two RBIs.

Saint Rose struck first in game two when Reed tripled home sophomore first baseman Chris Introcaso in the home half of the third, and later scored on a two-out single from junior shortstop Tyler Ungerland.

In the bottom of the fifth the Golden Knights rallied for five runs with two outs with the help of an Adelphi throwing error that allowed two runs and a bases-loaded two-RBI single by Flynn.

Sophomore right-hander Tyler Childrose was in control throughout the contest. He struck out five batters and allowed one run over 7.2 innings of work. Junior righty Carmine Vricciariello struck out three in 1.1 scoreless innings out of the pen to secure the game.

Up next, Saint Rose hosts Adelphi on Sunday, May 1 in a 1 p.m. Senior Day game.
