LATE FIRST HALF SURGE FALLS SHORT IN SETBACK TO FRANKLIN PIERCE

ALBANY-The College of Saint Rose rallied from a four goal deficit to get to within one at halftime, but Franklin Pierce opened the third quarter with five unanswered strikes to upend the Golden Knights 13-10 in today's Northeast-10 Conference tilt at Sullivan Field at the Plumeri Sports Complex.

The game was fairly evenly played as the Ravens (5-7/4-6 NE-10) manufactured a 36-31 shot advantage although the Golden Knights (3-12/1-9 NE-10) won 16-of-27 face-off opportunities.

Sophomore attack Matt Graham scored four goals to set a program single-season point record with his 46th (31g, 15a) of the season, surpassing the previous mark of 43 that Kevin Fleming set a year ago.

Additionally, junior midfielder Josh Frese scored twice while senior midfielder Mike Balla and sophomore midfielder Connor Moore both added a goal and an assist. Freshman midfielder Nicolas Johnson controlled a season-high 11-of-17 face-off chances.

In the back, senior defenseman Robert Reyes and senior midfielder Jon Munroe caused three miscues apiece. The latter also scored a goal.

The afternoon featured a regular shift in momentum. Franklin Pierce opened up a 3-0 lead throughout the initial seven minutes and then surged ahead 6-2 after Graham scored back-to-back to get Saint Rose to within 3-2. Graham and Frese found the back of the net seven minutes apart in the second, before Balla scored unassisted with 29 seconds left until halftime to make it a one goal affair at the break.

However, Franklin Pierce seized control at that point although the Golden Knights did not go quietly. Freshman long stick midfielder Jordan Fredericks finished a feed from junior midfielder Michael Tannenbaum and then Moore and Graham drove home unassisted tallies to get the Golden Knights to within 11-8 after the third.

Munroe then struck midway through the fourth to cut the deficit to two, but Franklin Pierce countered in a man down situation.

Saint Rose again got to within a pair when Frese scored with 3:43 to go, but the Ravens won the ensuing faceoff and controlled the ball for more than two minutes before adding the final tally with 44 seconds showing on the clock.

Sophomore midfielders Louis Palumbo and Sean Delea, senior attack Casey Burnett, and junior attack Anthony D'Aprile scored three times apiece to spearhead a balanced Ravens offense.

Looking ahead, both squads will close out their 2016 regular-season campaigns next Saturday. The Golden Knights will host Saint Michael's at 1:00 pm for Senior Day, while Franklin Pierce will take on visiting Pace University at 2:00 pm.
