SAINT ROSE TAKES ANOTHER PAIR

ALBANY–The College of Saint Rose ran its win streak to five games by taking both ends of today's non-league doubleheader versus College of St. Joseph at Bob Bellizzi Field at the Plumeri Sports Complex. The Golden Knights (14-11) pounded out 17 hits to come out on top 15-8 in the opener and then used a four-run, third inning outburst to win the nightcap 4-3.

The Fighting Saints (34-11), who had their 18-game win streak snapped, manufactured a run in the top of the first of game one. However, the Golden Knights (14-11) responded with three in their half of the first, two in the second, and five in the third. They then pushed across five more in the sixth.

Junior shortstop Tyler Ungerland provided the biggest blow in the first with an RBI triple. Ungerland added a run scoring single and junior third baseman Alex Chandler drove an RBI double down the left field line in the second. Ungerland then drove in two more with a base hit up the middle and Chandler added yet another two run double to account for most of the damage in the third.

In the sixth, junior second baseman Mike Flynn produced a two-run base hit and sophomore right fielder Sean Maki drove a three-run shot beyond the left field fence to close out the scoring.

Ungerland and Chandler both finished 3-for-4 with four RBI, while senior center fielder Derek Reed wound up 3-for-5 with three runs scored to lead the Saint Rose charge. Junior right-hander Mitch Forshey allowed one earned run and fanned seven throughout 3.0 innings of relief to pick up the win.

Junior designated hitter Connor Martin belted a grand slam in the fifth to highlight the College of St. Joseph effort.

In the finale, Maki provided the biggest blow in the fourth with a two-run triple to the right-centerfield gap.

Maki and junior designated hitter Joe DeLuca each finished with a pair of hits to spearhead the offense. Freshman right-hander Evin Kleinganz allowed a run on two hits throughout 3.0 innings out of the bullpen to pick up the win while junior right-hander Austin Von Herbulis worked around a hit batsman in the seventh to chalk up the save.

Saint Rose has now won 14 of its last 17. DeLuca has hit safely in nine straight games, while Chandler has done so in seven straight. Ungerland raised his Northeast-10 Conference leading batting average 17 points to .422 (35-for-83). The Golden Knights are now 6-2 in one-run games and are 11-1 when leading after six innings this spring.

Looking ahead, Saint Rose travels to Pleasantville to visit Pace University for a three-game NE-10 weekend series while the Fighting Saints head to Colchester VT for a 3:00 pm twin-bill tomorrow.
