SAINT ROSE BUSTS OUT BATS TO GAIN SPLIT AT NE-10 RIVAL PACE UNIVERSITY

PLEASANTVILLE, NY-The College of Saint Rose pounded out 18 hits and sophomore right-hander Tyler Childrose weaved a four-hit, complete game gem to allow the Golden Knights to gain a split in today's Northeast-10 Conference double-dip at Pace University.

Saint Rose (15-12/9-3 NE-10) scored at least a run in five of the first six innings to take the nightcap 10-1 after fighting back from a 5-1 deficit to deadlock the opener only to have the Setters (23-16/9-9 NE-10) push across the winning run in the tenth.

Childrose fanned seven without issuing a walk and stranded a runner at third in the second, fourth and seventh innings to minimize any potential damage en route to his second victory in a Golden Knights uniform.

Sophomore right fielder Sean Maki went 2-for-4 and drove in four runs to lead the Saint Rose outburst. Junior second baseman Mike Flynn went 3-for-5 while six other starters wound up with two hits apiece including senior left fielder Nick Venier who belted a solo home run in the first.

Sophomore catcher Michael Gulino finished 3-for-4 with an RBI to lead the Pace offense.

In the first game, the Golden Knights scored twice in both the seventh and eighth to deadlock the game 5-5. Junior catcher Joe DeLuca cut the deficit in half with a two-run shot in the seventh and then junior shortstop Tyler Ungerland doubled with two down in the eighth that brought around senior center fielder Derek Reed and Venier who previously stroked back-to-back base hits.

However, Saint Rose stranded Ungerland in scoring position that ultimately opened up the door for the Setters, who got three hits from junior designated hitter James Wynne. Ungerland, Flynn and Reed had two hits apiece for the Golden Knights.

Saint Rose has now won 15 of 19 after opening the season 0-8. DeLuca has hit safely in 11 straight games at a .391 clip (18-for-46) while Ungerland lifted his batting average 11 points to an NE-10 leading .433 (39-for-90).

Looking ahead, these two squads are scheduled to conclude their three-game series with a 1:30 pm start tomorrow.
