SAINT ROSE RUNS PAST SAINT THOMAS AQUINAS


ALBANY-The College of Saint Rose controlled tempo throughout the afternoon to chalk up today's 12-3 win against Saint Thomas Aquinas at Sullivan Field at the Plumeri Sports Complex. The Golden Knights (1-2) manufactured a 46-13 shot differential and opened up an 8-0 lead before the Spartans broke through in the third quarter.
 
Sophomore attack Matt Graham scored three first half goals and also set up two others while fellow sophomore attack Tom Horan found the back of the net three times to propel the Saint Rose offense.
 
Furthermore, junior midfielder Josh Frese and sophomore attack Evan Doherty each scored twice while senior midfielders Cameron Fisher and Mike Balla accounted for the final pair of goals. Sophomore midfielder Connor Moore contributed three assists.
 
Additionally, senior defenseman Robert Reyes caused three turnovers, junior midfielder Michael Tannenbaum gathered up five groundballs and freshman Nicolas Johnson and sophomore Lucas Frese won 11 of 19 faceoff opportunities collectively.
 
Horan struck barely a minute in and Graham scored with 4:02 to go in the first to make it 2-0 Saint Rose. The Golden Knights then added five more in the second to take a 7-0 lead at intermission. The Spartans, who have only one upperclassman on their roster, scored three times in the third to make it a 10-3 affair heading into the fourth. Horan and Josh Frese then put the last two points on the board.
 
Freshman midfielder Kevin Ahora scored twice for Saint Thomas Aquinas.
 
Looking ahead, the Golden Knights travel to Rochester, N.Y. on Wednesday to take on Roberts Wesleyan at 3:00 pm. Meanwhile, the Spartans host District of Columbia next Saturday at 2:30 pm.
