GOLDEN KNIGHTS SPLIT ON OPENING NIGHT IN FLORIDA

CLERMONT, Fla.-The College of Saint Rose opened its season on Friday evening and fell to Indiana (Pa.), 4-0, in the early matchup, and recorded an 8-7 victory over Georgian Court in the nightcap.

In game one, Saint Rose (1-1) and IUP (2-0) were scoreless through four innings before the Crimson Hawks got on the board with a solo shot in the fifth. IUP would then add three unearned runs with two outs in the top of the seventh to seal the victory.

Senior pitcher Nicole Wickham allowed one earned run in seven innings of work while striking out three. She also picked up the save in game two. Senior shortstop Danielle Brusca went 1-for-2 with a walk and a stolen base.

In the second game of the night, the Golden Knights foiled a Georgian Court (0-10) comeback attempt in the late innings when the Lions tallied four runs in the sixth after trailing 8-3 entering the frame.

Sophomore third baseman Jadyn Costello belted two doubles in a 3-for-4 effort, while sophomore outfielder Katie Shevlin drove in a run and scored three. Senior first baseman Taylor Snyder finished 2-for-3 with an RBI.

Saint Rose returns to the field on Saturday, March 5 against Quincy at 3 p.m. before taking on West Chester in the second half of the doubleheader.
