GOLDEN KNIGHTS UPENDED BY #13 MERCY


ALBANY-Mercy jumped out to a 4-0 lead to upend The College of Saint Rose 7-2 in a non-conference match this afternoon at Sullivan Field at the Plumeri Sports Complex.

The Mavericks (3-1), who are ranked No. 13 in the most recent USILA Division II Poll, outshot the Golden Knights (0-2) 28-20 and had five players account for their seven tallies.
 
Sophomore attack Matt Graham had a goal and an assist while sophomore midfielder Connor Moore tallied his first career strike for Saint Rose. Senior midfielder Mike Balla also picked up an assist.
 
Furthermore, freshman goalie Liam Guiton recorded five of his 10 saves throughout the first quarter when Mercy generated 13 shots, while Balla and senior midfielder Jon Munroe each came up with three ground balls.
 
The Mavericks scored twice in the opening stanza and added another pair in the second, before Graham finished a Balla feed to make it a 4-1 affair at halftime.
 
Mercy then struck twice in the opening four minutes of the third to put itself in the driver's seat behind a 6-1 advantage. Graham later set up Moore in the last five minutes for the game's final strike.
 
Junior midfielder Nick Wilcox had two goals and an assist, and freshman midfielder Ryan MacSpadyen recorded three assists to pace the Mavericks who have now outscored their four opponents by a combined score of 55-23 on the year.
 
Going forward, the Golden Knights are back home Sunday for a 3:00 pm date with St. Thomas Aquinas. Meanwhile, the Mavericks are off until next Saturday when they will host Chestnut Hill at 12:00 pm.
