SAINT ROSE SPLITS NON-LEAGUE DOUBLEHEADER AT MERCY

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y.-The College of Saint Rose squared off for a doubleheader with non-conference host Mercy on Tuesday, and dropped the opener 8-6 before winning 11-0 in five innings in the nightcap.

The Golden Knights (7-14) trailed 6-1 entering the seventh inning of game one, but rallied for five runs in the top of the frame to tie it up at six. However, Mercy (10-11) hit a walk-off home run with two outs in the home half to spoil the Saint Rose comeback.

Sophomore designated player Jadyn Costello went 2-for-4 with a run, RBI and stolen base, and freshman right-hander Briana Bowen finished 2-for-3 and scored a run.

In the second game, the Golden Knights scored three runs in each of the first three innings and tacked on two in the fourth to force a run-rule decision.

Senior shortstop Danielle Brusca led the Golden Knight contingent with three RBIs on 3-for-4 batting, while Costello and Bowen each recorded a double. Sophomore left fielder Katie Shevlin was 2-for-4 with three runs scored and two RBIs. Senior center fielder Meghan Reynolds scored two runs and went 2-for-3.

Senior right-hander Nicole Wickham allowed just two hits in a complete-game shutout effort.

Up next, Saint Rose travels to Syracuse, N.Y. on Wednesday, March 30 to take on Northeast-10 Conference rival Le Moyne in the Upstate Challenge. First pitch of the doubleheader is slated for 3 p.m.
