SAINT ROSE SUFFERS OVERTIME SETBACK TO SAINT ANSELM

ALBANY-Saint Anselm rebounded from an 8-5 fourth quarter deficit by scoring four unanswered strikes to upend The College of Saint Rose 9-8 in overtime in today's Northeast-10 Conference game at Sullivan Field at the Plumeri Sports Complex.

Junior midfielder Alex Pacitti tied the contest 8-8 with 2:12 left in regulation and then buried the game-winner unassisted at the 1:24 mark of the extra session.

Saint Rose withstood a 30-second man down situation and each squad registered a shot-on-goal in the final two minutes of the fourth to bring about overtime. Each team then turned the ball over once in OT, before Pacitti brought an abrupt end to the affair.

The Hawks (4-0/2-0 NE-10), who entered the afternoon atop the country with a 21.67 goal scoring average, manufactured a 41-33 shot advantage and won 9-of-11 face-off opportunities following halftime after the Golden Knights (2-6/0-3 NE-10) won all eight such chances throughout the opening 30 minutes.

Sophomore midfielder Connor Moore finished with two goals and a pair of assists and sophomore attack Matt Graham scored twice as well for his fifth multi-goal game this spring to spearhead the Saint Rose offense. In the back, freshman goalie Liam Guiton tied his season-high with 16 saves and senior defenseman Trey Jackson caused a pair of Hawks miscues.

For Saint Anselm, Pacitti found the back of the net four times, freshman midfielder Patrick Sweeney scored twice and senior attack Ben Warren contributed a goal and a pair of helpers.

Saint Rose bounced back from an early 1-0 hole to build leads of 3-1 and 6-3, along with the aforementioned 8-5; before the Hawks found their stride late. Graham accounted for the third Saint Rose tally when he finished a Moore feed in a man-up situation with 7:19 remaining in the second. Moore then made it 6-3 by scoring unassisted midway through the third and Graham made it 8-5 with his team-leading 17th goal of the year.

Looking ahead, both squads have home conference matches set for Tuesday. Saint Rose hosts second-ranked and Upstate Challenge rival Le Moyne at 4:30 pm, while Saint Anselm entertains Franklin Pierce at 4:00 pm.
