SAINT ROSE DEALT TOUGH LOSS IN EXTRAS

ALBANY-The College of Saint Rose held a lead entering the seventh inning and had multiple chances to win in the home half of the frame, but ultimately fell to Bentley, 7-3, in an eight-inning Northeast-10 Conference affair at Cathy Haker Field today.

Saint Rose (4-11/0-3 NE-10) got off to a strong start with a leadoff double by junior right fielder Carly Wood who scored on a sacrifice fly by senior catcher Zoe Dubois after a sacrifice bunt from senior shortstop Danielle Brusca.

Bentley (3-8/1-0 NE-10) took a 2-1 lead by delivering a two-out run in each of the third and fourth innings. The Falcons took their lead into the fifth when Wood tied the game at two, delivering her second double of the day to score sophomore left fielder Katie Shevlin who had singled to lead off the inning.

In the sixth, freshman first baseman Briana Bowen put the Golden Knights ahead 3-2 with a clutch two-strike, two-out single to score Dubois.

However, the Falcons responded with a timely hit of their own, knotting the game at three with a two-out single by sophomore right fielder Stephanie McQuaid in the top of the seventh.

The Golden Knights had several opportunities to win the game in the home half of the seventh after back-to-back singles to lead off the inning from freshman second baseman Alina Germinerio and senior right hander Nicole Wickham. However, Saint Rose could not come up with a game-winning tally.

In the top of the eighth, Bentley scored four runs with two outs and the Golden Knights were unable to respond in the botom half.

Up next, the Golden Knights are scheduled to host Dominican in a 2:00 pm non-league doubleheader this Tuesday. Meanwhile, Bentley is scheduled to play a 12:00 pm NE-10 doubleheader at Le Moyne in Syracuse tomorrow.
