ASSUMPTION USES PROLIFIC THIRD PERIOD TO UPEND SAINT ROSE

WORCESTER, MA-Host Assumption outscored The College of Saint Rose 5-1 in the third quarter to upend the Golden Knights 11-8 in Northeast-10 Conference action this afternoon. Saint Rose engineered a 34-33 shot advantage, including a 20-14 edge throughout the opening 30 minutes, although the Greyhounds won 13 off 22 faceoff opportunities.

Sophomore attack Matt Graham registered his fourth multi-goal game of the year with three strikes to pace the Saint Rose (2-5/0-2 NE-10) offense. Also, fellow sophomore attack Tom Horan finished with a pair of goals and an assist, while senior midfielders Mike Balla, Cameron Fisher and Jon Munroe also scored.

In the back, senior defenseman Robert Reyes caused a pair of turnovers while freshman goalie Liam Guiton made 14 saves.

The first half featured six ties as the two teams stood deadlocked 6-6 at the break. Assumption (2-4/2-1 NE-10) then scored five unanswered goals nine minutes apart to take an 11-6 lead in the decisive third, before Munroe finished a Horan pass with 15 seconds remaining to cut the Golden Knights deficit to four.

However, the Greyhounds won both faceoffs and took advantage of five turnovers to limit the Saint Rose opportunities throughout the fourth quarter.

For Assumption, sophomore attack Patrick O'Brien found the back of the net three times and senior midfielder Connor Munisteri scored a pair of goals and set up two others.

Looking ahead, both teams are back in action next Saturday, March 26. The Golden Knights will host Saint Anselm at 1:00 pm while the Greyhounds will travel to Waltham, MA to take on Bentley at 2:30 pm.
