SAINT ROSE USES LONG BALL TO TAKE SERIES OPENER FROM ADELPHI

HARPER TOSSES SECOND CONSECUTIVE COMPLETE GAME TO GO TO 6-3 THIS SPRING

GARDEN CITY, NY–The College of Saint Rose pounded out 14 hits including a pair of home runs to upend host Northeast-10 Conference Southwest Division rival Adelphi 7-2 this afternoon.
 
Senior catcher Zac Bellinger went 3-for-5 with a three-run homer in the ninth while junior center fielder Derek Reed belted a two run shot in the third. Senior right fielder Joseph Carcone also went 3-for-5, while junior left fielder Nick Venier, sophomore shortstop Tyler Ungerland and senior designated hitter Lukas Nethaway each had a pair of hits.
 
On the mound, senior right-hander Ryan Harper fanned five over the distance to improve to 6-3 this spring.
 
Following Reed's round-tripper, the Golden Knights (11-22/6-12 NE-10) scored a run in both the fourth and fifth to snap a 2-2 tie. Bellinger's two-run shot over the right field fence in the ninth broke it open. Harper, who allowed only one base runner throughout the last three innings, then put the finishing touches on his second consecutive complete game by retiring the Panthers (17-18/10-10 NE-10) in order in the ninth.
 
Senior third baseman Donato Signore wound up 3-for-4 to lead the Adelphi attack.
 
Looking ahead, these two teams are scheduled to wrap up their weekend series with a 12:00 pm doubleheader tomorrow on Long Island.
