GOLDEN KNIGHTS CLOSE OUT SEASON WITH SPLIT AT ADELPHI

GARDEN CITY, NY–The College of Saint Rose wrapped up its 2015 campaign with a split at Northeast-10 Conference rival Adelphi this afternoon. The Golden Knights (12-23/7-13 NE-10) won the opener 7-6, but the Panthers (18-19/11-11 NE-10) scored four runs in the first inning and never looked back to take the finale 14-1.

Junior center fielder Derek Reed) went 3-for-5 with a double while freshman third baseman Bray Curreri finished 2-for-3 with a pair of RBI for Saint Rose. Also, senior designated hitter Lukas Nethaway and freshman second baseman Alec Caprarella both wound up 2-for-4.

The Golden Knights belted four base hits, and took advantage of an error and a bases loaded walk to open up a 3-0 lead in the second inning. They then added a run in the fourth and went up 7-0 in the fifth when junior left fielder Nick Venier stole home, Reed scored on a wild pitch, and Nethaway drove in senior catcher Zac Bellinger.

However, Adelphi got two back in the sixth, another pair in the eighth, and made it a 7-6 ballgame in the ninth with the potential tying run on base. However, Reed raced to the warning track to snare a fly ball off the bat of sophomore center fielder John Fogarty to end it.

In the finale, the Panthers led 8-0 after three innings to afford junior right-hander Jonathon Mulford all the support he needed. Mulford allowed two hits and fanned five throughout 6.0 innings of shutout ball to run his record to 7-0 on the spring.

Bellinger finished 2-for-4 for Saint Rose, while senior right fielder Nick Zito went 4-for-4 with a pair doubles and three RBI to spearhead the Panthers attack.
