QUICK START LEADS #3 LE MOYNE PAST GOLDEN KNIGHTS

SYRACUSE-Third-ranked Northeast-10 Conference rival Le Moyne jumped out to an 8-0 lead to upend The College of Saint Rose 19-7 in an Upstate Challenge game today.
 
Senior attack Kevin Fleming had three goals and a pair of assists to lead the Golden Knights. Freshman midfielder Matt Graham also struck three times while junior attack Justin Golec accounted for the final tally. Furthermore, senior midfielder Kris Miller added an assist to extend his season-long scoring streak to 10 games.
 
Fleming scored twice in the second quarter, including one in a man-down situation, as Saint Rose (3-7/2-5 NE-10) went into the locker room with an 11-2 halftime deficit. A pair of goals from Graham and one each from Fleming and Golec within a 10 minute span in the third quarter made it 12-6 Dolphins (10-1/8-0 NE-10). Le Moyne then scored the game's next seven goals to thwart any thought of a Golden Knights upset.
 
Senior midfielder Michael Grundig won 10 of his 20 faceoffs and came up with six groundballs while senior goalkeeper Nick Longo and junior midfielder Joseph O'Hagan had four groundballs apiece to help the Saint Rose cause.
 
Meanwhile, attack Matt Taylor, a graduate student, scored five goals and senior midfielder Joe Corapi finished with four as the Dolphins ran their win streak to nine games.
 
Looking ahead, both teams are back in action with conference games this Saturday. The Golden Knights have a 6:00 pm meeting at Saint Anselm while the Dolphins have a 3:00 pm date at Adelphi.
