GOLDEN KNIGHTS SWEEP SAINT JOSEPH

ALBANY-The College of Saint Rose got out to early leads in both games to sweep Saint Joseph, VT in a pair of scheduled seven innings contests today at Bob Bellizzi Field. The Golden Knights (10-22) took the opener 8-7 in eight innings after the Fighting Saints rallied from a 7-2, third inning deficit; and then blew open a 4-1 nightcap by scoring six runs in the fourth en route to an 11-1 victory.

Saint Joseph, VT (34-30) scored a run in both the fourth and fifth innings of the opener, made it a 7-6 ballgame with two runs in the sixth and then tied it in the seventh on a wild pitch, before Saint Rose took advantage of a wild pitch itself to win it.

Freshman third baseman Alec Caprarella went 3-for-5 with pair of two-run singles to lead the Golden Knights attack. Also, freshman center fielder Sean Maki drove in a pair of runs with a double in the second. Meanwhile, sophomore right fielder Connor Martin finished 3-for-5 with and brought across three runs for Saint Joseph, VT.

In the finale, Saint Rose pounded out nine hits and drew 10 walks. Sophomore shortstop Tyler Ungerland and senior catcher Zac Bellinger spearheaded the attack. Ungerland finished 3-for-3 with two RBI and a leadoff home run over the left field fence in the third. Bellinger went 2-for-3 with a two-run double in the fourth, while sophomore right-hander Carmine Vricciariello allowed only an unearned run on five hits and five strikeouts throughout 5.0 innings of work to pick up the win.

Looking ahead, Saint Rose closes out its Northeast-10 Conference regular-season slate Friday and Saturday with a three-game series at Adelphi.
