WEST HAVEN, Conn. – New Haven's Nicole King fanned 12 batters, and allowed just three hits and one run, as the Chargers downed The College of Saint Rose softball team 5-1 Friday afternoon in a
Northeast-10 Conference contest at the UNH Softball Field.

Rachel Waseleski was credited with the lone run on the day for the Golden Knights (13-20 overall, 6-11 NE-10). Waseleski was walked in the sixth, moved to third on a single from sophomore
Carly Wood, and sent home on a sacrifice fly from junior
Danielle Brusca.

Nicole Wickham dropped to 7-10 in the circle after allowing seven hits, and striking out just one batter in 6.0 complete innings. Â

The Chargers (15-15-2, 10-8) broke open the scoreless game in the fourth, starting with a leadoff RBI double to left center from junior Jen Palase. She was driven in later in the inning off a RBI single from senior Gilly Childs.

UNH collected two runs in both the fifth and the sixth. Junior Victoria Cabral got things moving when she laid down a RBI double to right center. Cabral scooted home during the next play as senior
Kari Bird made a fielding error in center.

With a runner on second in the sixth, senior Courtney Reed stepped in to pinch hit, and ripped a RBI triple to right, and finally capped scoring off a RBI groundout from sophomore Gabby DeLeo.

Wood, junior
Taylor Snyder and Bird registered all three hits for Saint Rose on the day, each going 1-for-3 at the plate, while Brusca tabbed the lone RBI.

The Golden Knights return to the diamond on Saturday to face UNH and wrap up the regular season, starting at noon.
