BRIARCLIFF, N.Y. – Junior Danielle Brusca secured the only run of the day with her first career home run for The College of Saint Rose softball team as it dropped a pair of Northeast-10 Conference games Thursday afternoon at Pace, falling 7-1 in game one a 3-0 in the latter at Pace Field.

The Golden Knights dropped to 8-12 overall and 3-4 in the NE-10, while the Setters improved to 13-6, 5-3.

Senior Jeane Drury got things going for Pace early in game two as she led off the bottom of the first with a single to Brusca at short. She moved to second on a muffed throw from first baseman Tina Karaqi as she scooped up a sacrifice bunt from Labs. Sophomore Nikole Larm sent both runners home on a two RBI single to right, giving Pace a 2-0 lead.

The Setters collected their third and final run of the game in the second off another RBI single from Labs.

Saint Rose left four runners on throughout the game, but could not muster a tally.

Junior Nicole Wickham (5-6) registered the loss in the circle for the Golden Knights as she allowed eight hits and three runs, two of them earned, while fanning two batters.

In game one, the Setters got on the board in the second as freshman Ashley Lew scored on a passed ball. The New City, N.Y., native reached after being hit by a pitch, moved to second as fellow freshman Amanda Limon singled to sophomore Renee Vaiano in the circle, and was pushed to third on a sacrifice but from Jordan Chillinsky. Freshman Tara Bernstein stepped up next, and reached on a dropped third strike.

Loading up the bases in its next at-bat, Pace drew Limon in the lineup, and collected three more tallies as she doubled to left center and nabbed three RBI.

Drury made it a 6-0 advantage in the fourth as she homered to left with one runner one, and Larm capped scoring for the Setters later in the inning with a RBI single to right.

Brusca gave Saint Rose its only run of the game with her first career homer off a shot over the left field fence in the sixth.

Vaiano (3-5) suffered the loss in the circle, giving up all seven runs, six of them earned, in four complete innings. Senior Ashlee Frazier entered the in the fifth and allowed just one hit. Both haulers struck out one batter.

Brusca, senior Marisa Bird and freshman Taylor Solomon registered two hits each on the day to lead Saint Rose from the plate.

The Golden Knights are set to finish the series at Pace on Friday beginning at 1:00 pm, and return home on Monday to host non-conference foe Mercy. First pitch is slated for 2:30 at Cathy Haker Field.
