ALBANY–Senior catcher Lukas Nethaway drove a double to deep left field in the eighth inning that scored the winning run in a 3-2 Senior Day victory for The College of Saint Rose against visiting Northeast-10 Conference rival New Haven today. In the process, the Golden Knights (7-17/4-8 NE-10) took two of three in the weekend series from the Chargers.

Senior left fielder Nick Venier went 3-for-4 with three runs scored to lead the Saint Rose attack. Also, senior first baseman Zac Bellinger singled to extend his hit streak to 10 games.

On the mound, senior southpaw Bryan Carr tossed 2.1 innings of two-hit, shutout ball to pick up the win, while senior right-hander Chris Gould got the final two outs to chalk up the save. Furthermore, junior starting right-hander Phillip Zdanowski allowed a pair of runs on seven hits in 6.0 innings of work.

Saint Rose went up early with a 1-0 lead in the second when junior designated hitter Patrick Griffin lined a two-out base hit down the right field line that scored Venier.

New Haven responded with two runs an inning later, but Saint Rose struck with two outs again in the sixth when sophomore third baseman Mike Flynn lined a base hit up the middle that brought across Venier.

The Chargers subsequently put the potential winning run in scoring position in both the seventh and eighth, but Carr induced a pair of groundouts to end each threat.

In the home half of the eighth, Bellinger led off by bunting his way on, advanced to second on a sacrifice by sophomore second baseman Tyler Ungerland, and moved to third via a Venier infield base hit. Nethaway then got a hold of a 1-0 pitch that scored Bellinger.

For New Haven (9-11/5-7 NE-10), senior center fielder Brendan O'Reilly, sophomore shortstop Tom Walraven, and sophomore designated hitter Robert Petrillo, Jr. each had two hits.

Looking ahead, both teams have 3:30 pm NE-10 Southwest Division games this Wednesday. The Golden Knights will travel to Springfield to take on American International for the third and final contest of the regular-season series. Meanwhile, the Chargers have a home date with crosstown rival Southern Connecticut State.

Prior today's game, nine student-athletes were honored as part of Senior Day Festivities. The group included pitchers Brad Bellinger and Ryan Harper, Gould and Carr; along with Nethaway, Zac Bellinger, second baseman Ryan Hooker and outfielders Joseph Carcone and Venier.
